Volunteer for garden tours

Lonicera sempervirens (native honeysuckle); a monarch caterpillar rests on milkweed; and mondara fistulosa (bee balm) appears with a great spangled fritillary.

Calling all native gardeners, show us your plants

For Capital Region Wild Ones, the warm-weather garden tours are among the most popular events of the year. From June through September, members are invited to peak inside the properties of gardeners who’ve put a native spin on their plantings. The gardens may be at different stages of development, but each one tells the story of moving toward a landscape that incorporates native plants and helps build a habitat for beneficial critters.

Capital Region Wild Ones is starting to plan for the 2025 tours and here’s how you can participate:

Volunteer your garden: Would you be willing to share your native garden or recommend another native garden for a tour? If you know of a cluster of native gardeners who might participate, we’d love to know about them.

Join our planning committee: This group meets via Zoom in the winter and spring when we will help identify potential tour gardens, spread the word about upcoming tours and assist with organizational efforts.

Tour the gardens: Watch for details in our upcoming newsletters, but remember that while garden tours are FREE, they are open only to members of Capital Region Wild Ones. (When there’s room, members can bring a friend!) So if you’re not a member yet, now is the time to join here. If you’re not sure, you can check your status online or inquire below.
