Are you a baker? We want you!

Every year our Native Plant Celebration and Seed Swap features a Bake Sale with a Twist. And every year members of Wild Ones Capital Region cook up a delicious spread of goodies that highlight the bounty of native plants. This year’s offerings will include apple elderberry jelly, cornbread cookies, pumpkin-maple cornbread, maple cookies, and more.

We’re still looking for a few more offerings to sell at John Boyd Thacher State Park on Saturday, Nov. 14. If you’d like to bake for us, we’d love to have you. Here is what you need to know:

  • Each item should include a native plant ingredient. (Examples: Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, corn, grapes, maple syrup or any food that’s native to New York state.) Remember there’s no need to forage for ingredients, the idea is to highlight the spirit of native plants.
  • When deciding what to bake, try to choose items that are easily “grabbable” by our seed swap attendees. Less messy is better!
  • If you’re interested, let us know what you’re baking so we can ensure a variety of offerings. You can sign up here by Oct. 31: Volunteer form.
